O sacred and adorable Trinity, hear our prayers on behalf of our holy Father the Pope, our Bishops, our clergy, and for all that are in authority over us. Bless, we beseech Thee, during the coming year, the whole Catholic Church; convert heretics and unbelievers; soften the hearts of sinners so that they may return to Thy friendship; give prosperity to our country and peace among the nations of the world; pour down Thy blessings upon our friends, relatives, and acquaintances, and upon our enemies, if we have any; assist the poor and the sick; have pity on the souls of those whom this year has taken from us; and do Thou be merciful to those who during the coming year will be summoned before Thy judgment seat. May all our actions be preceded by Thy inspirations and carried on by Thy assistance, so that all our prayers and works, having been begun in Thee, may likewise be ended through Thee.
An Act of Thanksgiving for the Blessings of the Past Year
O God, the beginning and the end of all things, Who art always the same, and Whose years fail not, we now, at the close of another year, kneel in adoration before Thee, and offer Thee our deepest thanks for the fatherly care with which Thou has watched over us during the past, for the many times Thou hast protected us from evils of soul and body, and for the numberless blessings, both temporal and spiritual, which Thou hast showered upon us. May it please Thee to accept the homage of our grateful hearts which we offer Thee in union with the infinite thanksgiving of Thy divine Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, Who with Thee liveth and reigneth forever and ever. Amen.
St. John Chrysostom Homily
Let me tell you about the ways of reconciliation with God. There are many and varied but all of them lead to heaven.
The first is condemnation of one’s own sins. This is sufficient for God to free you. Besides if you condemn your sins, you will be more cautious not to commit them again.
There is another way no less efficacious: do not remember the faults of your enemies, control your anger, pardon the brothers who have offended you and you will receive pardon for your offences.
Do you want to learn a third way of purification? It is that of fervent well-made prayer rising from the depth of the heart.
If you want to know also a fourth. I will say it is almsgiving. It is a very efficacious way.
Let us also add this: if one acts with temperence and humility, he will destroy from the very roots his sins with no less telling effect that with the other who, offered instead the humble acknowledgement of his sins with no less telling effect than with the other above-mentioned means.
We have indicated five ways of reconcialation with God. The first is condemnation of one’s own sins. The second is forgiveness of offences. The third consists in prayer, the fourth in almsgiving and the fifth in humilty.
Yes, I am still at it! Trying various versions of no-exact-recipe gyozas. Here are the boiled ones with the ingredients consisting of minced pork & chopped coriander+cabbage!
18 pieces of dumplings all for me 🙂
I had wanted to vary my cooking style so I bought a small electric grill from Walmart ~ $17. It is made for convenience at a reasonable price. Simple to operate i.e. 5 minutes warm-up time and put on the chicken wings. After ~7 minutes, voila! grilled chicken wings!
My slightly burnt wings...
My second batch of gyozas! I am still on a roll with GYOZAs. This second batch looks nicer but doesn’t taste as good as the first batch. I changed the ingredients a little bit to experiment with different kind mixing of the ingredients. It didn’t worked out well but I know what went wrong! The pork I used this time was not minced but are ‘cubed’ , which just means it was pummeled. But then I decided to ‘chop’ it so it became too minced. Hence, the meat texture was ruined. The cabbage I used was too tender because I used the inner leaves( very light green) of the cabbage. I think it taste nicer if I used the outer ones, which are greener. Then I ran out of salt while mixing everything so it was slightly tasteless.
I was missing those delicious fried dumplings from KK these past few weeks. But I am too far away from home. So I did the next best thing, I decided to make them myself!
First things first. I bought my wantan wrap at Kroger’s last week. There’s no Asian shops around here and I couldn’t find any gyoza wraps so I figured the wantan wraps would just have to do. This week Jessika brought me to Walmart to buy Mwahlimu Jr.’s birthday gift so I took the chance to buy mince pork and cabbage. Today, after ‘consulting’ Francis @ Cooking with Dog, I got down to work.
Here are the results…!
Wow…I was blown away by my not-so-pretty woh teh. They tasted quite good, inspite of not having enough ingredients according to Francis’s recipe. I didn’t have sake or chopped chives. In my first attempt at making gyoza, I really think I pulled it off. Not bad, man…!
